Submissions

General Submissions

We welcome submissions from 1st January – March 1st and from 1st September – 31st October, for work to be published in print or online. Work submitted outside of these times will not be considered.

Please submit only one story at a time. If you want to know what kind of fiction we like, please order a back issue. We have wide-ranging tastes and have happily published traditional character driven stories next to non-conformist work of extraordinary innovation. Novel chapters which function as self-contained units may additionally work well for us. Stories should be no longer than 5,000 words.

We receive around 500 stories in a reading cycle, so we not only invite but expect simultaneous submissions (we do ask, however, that you notify us immediately if a work has been accepted elsewhere). We aim to read and turnover all submissions within a three-month period.

We are also inviting illustration submissions for the first time, again to feature in print or online.

To make a submission, please email: submissions@shortfictionjournal.co.uk

Thank you for showing us your work.
