Submissions

General Submissions

We welcome general submissions from 1 September – 31 December, for work to be published the following November.

Please submit only one story at a time. If you want to know what kind of fiction we like, please order a back issue. We have wide-ranging tastes and have happily published traditional character driven stories next to non-conformist work of extraordinary innovation. Novel chapters which function as self-contained units may additionally work well for us. Stories should be no longer than 6,000 words.

We receive over 500 stories in a reading cycle, so we not only invite but expect simultaneous submissions (we do ask, however, that you notify us immediately if a work has been accepted elsewhere). Like many other journals, due to a small staff, we can only respond to those writers whose work we are accepting. We aim to read and turnover all submissions within a four-month period. If you have not heard from us by April of the year following submission, please assume that we cannot use your story. Finally, we are no longer accepting postal submissions.

To make a submission, please email in MS Word format to: shortfiction2010@googlemail.com

Thank you for showing us your work.
